Dear Colleagues,

Now the time has arrived for collecting data on Survey and Diagnosis of the non-exotic fish diseases in Europe for 2012 according to Council Directive 2006/88/EC.

The form is very similar to the form submitted last year for compiling the 2011 data, except that we this year do not include the additional scheme provided by the epidemiologists in connection with the EFSA project on risk based surveillance.

The general production data in Europe will be obtained from FAO Fisheries Global Information System (FIGIS) Aquaculture Production, and questions on these aspects are not included in this survey. Unfortunately, the general production data do still not cover the number of farms, their size, or their health status – information that are important for epidemiological analysis.

We therefore ask you to provide these data to us again this year. The questionnaire also covers other survey and control programmes in your country and details on the epizootic situation. Furthermore, we would like to collect information on the geographical localization of e.g. zones with different categories of farms, disease outbreaks etc. Therefore we would encourage you to submit a map with this information. These maps could be retrieved from Maps of Europe but feel free to use the map that best fits your needs.

Please save the attached template 2012 under the name of your country and submit the completed form both to Niccoló Vendramin (niven@vet.dtu.dk) and Nicole Nicolajsen (nnic@vet.dtu.dk) by 2nd of April 2013.
The template can also be downloaded from our webpage (no longer available).

An overview of the data collected from this survey will be presented at the 17th Annual Meeting for National Reference Laboratories for Fish Diseases, Copenhagen, Denmark 29th -30th May 2013.

Best Regards
Niccoló Vendramin, Niels Jørgensen Olesen, Nicole Nicolaisen
