The EURL for Fish and Crustacean Diseases has updated the diagnostic manuals for detecting infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHNV) and infectious salmon anaemia virus (ISAV) in fish.
The major changes in “Diagnostic methods and procedures for the surveillance and confirmation of infection with VHSV and IHNV” is an amendment of the probe sequence and reference for the detection of IHNV RNA by RT-qPCR. Furthermore, the two steps RT-qPCR for detection of IHNV RNA (Purcell et al., 2013) has been removed.
The major changes in “Diagnostic methods for the surveillance and confirmation of infection with HPR-deleted infectious salmon anemia virus (ISAV)” is the inclusion of the possibility to use other primer sets or Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) to perform sequencing of HPR in segment 6 to discriminate HPR0 from HRPΔ isolates. Furthermore, a clarification about the number of positive samples to be sequenced has been included.
